Ratalaika Games has become one of the main publishers of indie games and have been releasing some great games recently. So, it is no surprise that we have yet another indie game released. Voyage is the latest title which looks very interesting as it is a relaxing, cinematic experience telling a great story with some amazing visuals to tell the tale. So come and join me on the voyage to see if it is something great or a dead end.

“We’re Going on an Adventure!”

Voyage is a game about exploration which sees you take control of two survivors that is looking for a past which is now long gone. The story can tackled either by yourself or in co-op mode with a friend. Unlike most games that tell a story, this has no voice acting or written text so the game will offer a different experience for every gamer that plays it depending how they interpret the answers you find. If you have played and enjoyed games like Journey then you will find this fascinating.

Peace Out!

The contains no fighting as the world is peaceful and instead to progress you must solve puzzles. Due to the nature of the game, there is no time limit to solve and it is very rewarding to complete the puzzle to unlock more of the story and advance. The controls are minimal with only movement and an interact button, reveal a clue, tell the other character to stop and switch characters.

Co-Op

Playing with a friend adds a new experience to the game which also means the switch character and the command to halt the other one rare made redundant. The method of saving progress in the game is done via checkpoints which works well considering that you don’t need to worry about dying. The only issue that makes this not great is that you never really know where they are and if you need to exit the game, then you might find the part you just spent 10 mins on might be lost as no point is there, which is frustrating slightly.

Stunning Visuals

The graphics in Voyage is simply stunning! The beautifully drawn visuals really help to pull you into the game and tells the story nicely. The colours, the backdrops, the terrain are all amazing and you just want to stop and admire the beauty which is easy to do as the pace is slow and casual. There are little animations that pop-up which, along with the soundtrack in the background add so much atmosphere that you get emotionally invested in the gameplay and story.

Final Thoughts

Voyage is a beautiful game with an amazing story and visuals to really tell the story wonderfully. The game is fun in solo mode but play with a friend and the experience is so much different. The only issues I had with the game is the checkpoint system which is more frustrating than a game breaker due to location and amount throughout the game. Otherwise, a great game and a worthy purchase.
