This news brings back some memories. A Full Motion Video game is being released in 2014? I just had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. I thought FMV titles had died out in the late 90’s. Obviously this is not the case as we are getting close now to the release of Tesla Effect, an adventure that features the down-on-his-luck gumshoe, Tex Murphy.
As you all know Murphy lives in a post-apocalyptic San Francisco in the year 2050. Tex start coming around on the fire escape near his office, with a concussion and injection mark on his arm. He also has another problem – the last seven years of his life has been erased from memory, so he must now do what he does best and investigate what happened to him and who is behind it.
Atlus has released a launch trailer which shows some more FMV footage from the game. Some of the features that they reveal in the video sound very interesting and they are listed below for your reading:
- Fully explorable real-time 3D environments.
- Massive locations to investigate.
- Uncover obstacles and solve puzzles.
- 2K resolution.I will admit that a Full Motion Video game getting a release in the modern age of gaming is exciting. And I can tell you that it looks much better than the grainy efforts of the 90’s, though they do hold a special place in my heart. Until the release, enjoy the launch trailer above. And for those who don’t remember what FMV looked like back in the day, check out the trailer below for some early Tex Murphy action.
Anyway nostalgia aside, the release date for Tesla Effect is 22 April via Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/261510) and GOG.com. (http://www.gog.com/game/tesla_effect_a_tex_murphy_adventure) Also as a bonus, all pre-orders will include a free soundtrack. So let us know below what memories, if any you got of old FMV or even the Tex Murphy games from back then.
