I have always liked fast-paced racing games and have enjoyed many hours playing Hot Wheels Unleashed and the two-wheel fun game, Ride. So, when I was offered a chance to get my hands on a preview build, I could not wait. Upon firing up the game one of the first improvements I noticed was the main menu screen. This is very simplified while giving access to all the important parts of the game. The colour scheme is welcoming and fully functional.
One of the major improvements in this latest offering is the presentation. The intro gives a great experience and this year the focus on the arena and fireworks gives it the professional feel and makes you go wow. On the track is where I most interested in seeing what improvements have been made. Claims from Milestone say that now you get greater control of the bike, both on the track and when performing a mid-air jump.
The physics are improved and the interaction of the bike with the track is better this year. Also, the control in mid-air is smooth and does give a much more fun experience when chucking it around the tracks. You race against other riders and this feels like you are in a pack of bikers who are fighting for the win, especially when a group of you make a jump and attempt to land cleanly to take the position.
Being a preview build a lot of features aren’t ready, but there was free race mode with 250 and 450 bikes. Also, tracks were available and these were looking nice and visuals were stunning. This year there was also a fun addition which has been requested by fans and that a split screen mode. So now you can race friend’s head-to-head on the same system for some party fun. The academy mode is fun and will give you tutorials on how to ride a bike like a pro and will help give you the edge in the game.
Final Thoughts
This is only a preview build, but it showcases enough to know that this is going to be the best in the series so far. With all the new improvements fans of the series will love it. The full release is 17 March on all major consoles and Steam.
