Encased Steam Early Access Preview

Computer Role Playing Games (CRPG) have been a favourite of mine ever since I played Fallout and Fallout 2. Hearing that an CRPG hit Early Access on Steam naturally I was curious. The game is called Encased and from news that I have seen, it looks pretty good. This is the Early Access version, so there maybe little issues which when the final release comes out they it will be a full finished game. So let us have a look below to see if it plays as good as it looks.

Developer: Dark Crystal
Release Date: September 2021

CPU: Intel Core i5-7300U 3.5 Ghz / AMD Equivalent
GPU: Geforce GTX 960, AMD Radeon HD 7970
RAM: 8 GB
HHD: 20 GB

Encased is a CRPG that is based in an alternative 1970’s and is after the Cold War have ended. You are part of the Dome, an anomalous zone found on Earth and then a massive corporation called CRONUS formed and started research. This is where you enter, a regular employee who goes down a one-way path to find out what is going on. Encased is an isometric view with turn-based combat and has a very similar feel to Fallout 1 & 2 and Wastelands.

You put on power armour, go out in a radiation filled world with a lot quests to complete and get drawn into turn-based combat. Also, as you wander around the world, you meet a lot of NPC’s and you must make a choice of either helping them or don’t and rain down a whole lot of havoc on them. When you load the game you need to complete a opening section, which is a little bit of a pain but once you complete it you then get to the open world, which is where Encased begins to get very interesting and shows it’s true potential.

What we need to remember is that Encased is still in Early Access. Developer Dark Crystal are still updating and things like voice acting have been added and now the second act has been updated to allow it to be completed to the end. No doubt that between now and it’s release date from Early Access in September the game will be finished and realising it’s full potential. So far it is looking good, so can’t wait to check out the final release.
