Good Cup of Joe!
Caffeine: Victoria Legacy is a novel that features coffee, lots of coffee as apparently it gives the characters special abilities. Depending on how well society can identify the various flavours which in turn decides type of ability, so this in turn makes people very picky and snobby about coffee in the game. The main character is Taka Knight, who has been thrown out of an airplane that is about to crash and he is now searching for his lost mother.
Everyone Need Friends
Taka has found his way to a strange city called Victoria where all the residents are controlled by coffee of all flavours. As with all stories there is a girl involved and he is taken with Alice, who sells tasty pastries from within a coffee shop that was a big part of his childhood as it was run by his parents. As he explores more and start to get some sense of his bearings after the shock, he meets other residents of Victoria who are quite quirky. There is a barista called Oceane, the reclusive Eliza and a humble down-to-earth barista named Mel.
As the story unfolds, he begins to find some very interesting things about his past and that of his parents. The story is interesting, though it might take a while to become invested due to the premise behind it at first, but throughout the 20+ hours it does grow on you and towards the end does really grip you. There are a lot of plot twists, but they do eventually become mundane and lose their impact on you and the flashbacks tend to be a lot and do spoil the flow of the story.
The character visuals and appearances are very nice but it does seem like that they were copied from popular styles rather than something different. The game has minor grammatical errors and there is only partial voice acting which is fine, but they did mix it in with non-voice acted lines so in some scenes it is odd that some character speak and you read the text of others.
Final Thoughts
Caffeine: Victoria’s Legacy is nice visual novel with beautiful looking graphics. Yes there are a few minor issues in the game, but this does not a game breaker and the 20+ hours of gameplay are pleasant and enjoyable. If you like visual novels then this is a purchase for you.
