Over the decades football management sims have always been a popular past time. This goes back to the 8-bit and 16-bit eras where they were mostly texted based. In every era there have been a management sim and recently they have included the Football Manager series by Sega and are always fun to play. Sometimes we don’t want the flash graphics so 90 Minute Fever brings back the traditional text-based game to give us gamers a nostalgic feel. So let’s take a look at it as it leaves Steam Early Access.

90 Minute Fever is a football MMO which is looking like it will fill a hole in the market since Football Manager Live closed its servers. Ten years on and Isokron is looking like the one to fill the market gap. It is a free-to-play game and the content is very vast and it is quite easy to pick up and play. You begin by creating a new club and then you become the manager and begin to take on other players and their clubs in order to try and win trophies and have a fun time doing it.

When you get setup, get your tactics and go head-to-head against another player around the world, you get a feel of nerves and excitement as you go out and try to win. When you do get that first win under the belt, you become hungry to get more and end up playing one more game. If you lose, you still get the same mentality to go one more game, to try and correct the mistakes you made the game before and the game becomes very addictive, very quickly.

When you first load up the game you are taken to the club creation menu. From here you get to do the stuff like give your club a name and put together your club colours for your three kits. And to add a final touch of class you can upload a crest of your own design or use an already designed one. When this is done you are ready to move on to getting your club ready for their first game with you in charge.

Some of the options in-game include trawling through the transfer market to find players, bring through youth players and formulate tactics so you can have a plan to try and win a game. The emphasis is the ability to take on and compete against players around the world and it does this brilliantly and is going to be very popular, especially now it is out of early access and have had a lot of final touches and tweaks to make it great.

There are no real-life players in the game, so you will not have the chance to sign Mo Salah or Haaland unfortunately. But there is a feature called ‘Time Portal: Players Through History’ which at the start of the new season, any old players get retired and youth players are available to sign, but they will be the names of retired players like Di Canio, Le Tissier to name but a few. To keep things even playing field, they get added over the course of many seasons and not all at once, which is a good thing.

The visuals are simple, mostly texted based and work like the most popular Football Management Sims of the retro era and the popular Football Manager Live. The community if great and very welcoming especially to newbies and it will grow and grow over time. This is a great management game and being free-to-play, can offer plenty of fun, especially during the winter months.
